Overview: Emergence – Archived

How does order emerge from chaos without any kind of central organizing force? This phenomenon is often described as emergent complexity, or emergence. It is a term used to described how relatively simple, interacting parts can generate a qualitatively more complex whole at a greater level of scale. Emergence informs the study of complex issues, like how consciousness emerges from the brain.
