The study of the unit is among those that lead the mind on…

If our perception of the unit, by sight or any other sense, is quite unambiguous, then it does not draw the mind towards reality any more than our perception of a finger. But if it is always combined with the perception of its opposite, and seems to involve plurality as much as unity, then it calls for the exercise of judgement and forces the mind into a quandary in which it must stir itself to think, and ask what unity in itself is; and if that is so, the study of the unit is among those that lead the mind on and turn it to the vision of reality.
